Meet April:
As a queer and neurodivergent therapist, I bring both lived experience and clinical training to my work with clients. My intention is to create and maintain a therapeutic relationship and environment that is a safe space for all humans, free from judgment, and instilled with support and respect.
I work with adults, for individual counseling, via telehealth. I have seen the best results working with those who are fellow neurodivergent people, who have experienced complex trauma, and/or who live with chronic pain/illness, and/or those who identify with the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Supporting this clients as they process events, feelings,
needs, and beliefs, while facilitating a deeper understanding of self, with an empathetic connection is very rewarding work.
My therapeutic approach includes, expressing my client-centered and trauma-informed mindset, by collaboratively attuning with my client’s willingness and capacity for the pace of therapy and meeting goals. I support clients in deepening their relationships with parts of themselves that show up and consent to being (IFS-informed), and
develop an understanding of how to support and meet the needs of those parts and self (DBT), while also celebrating steps toward progress (SFBT).
Clinical Background:
I have a Master’s of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling, from Western Oregon University. I am dedicated to continuing education in the field of mental health, in an effort to brighten and deepen my skills as a counselor. I also have lived experience and past work experience surrounding meeting the needs of clients in traumatic events, stages of life, and/or without resources.
What to Expect in Therapy:
As a client and I discover obstacles to their goals, I hold space for the client’s feelings, assist in the client identify their needs, and together implement strategies that support progress. I also utilize resources, handouts, and visual aids as needed.
I invite you to be vulnerable and come cry, laugh and process with me in therapy. I am excited to meet you, hear what happened in your life, and find out what works for you and what doesn’t.
