Social Work Intern

Anna Jurken (she/her) is a graduate student in the Master of Social Work Program at Portland State University. She brings her experience working in deeply relational roles in legal advocacy, youth services, and program coordination to the clinical setting where she works to foster trust and respect throughout the therapeutic process. She believes that the expression of all emotions is beautiful and necessary to achieve healing.

Anna recognizes that each individual is unique and therefore deserves a tailored approach and tailored solutions to meet their varying needs. She trusts and honors the deep self-knowing individuals bring into the therapeutic relationship and uses this to deepen the collaborative process of therapy. Compassion and deep listening are integral to Anna’s work with clients.

Anna’s foundational approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She has studied and is informed by somatic techniques such as Brainspotting and Polyvagal Theory. She is passionate about the mind-body connection and encourages clients to notice the ways emotion and trauma are living in their bodies.

When not in the office, Anna enjoys spending time with her puppy, running on trails, and skiing.

Anna is practicing under the clinical supervision of Daphna Peterson, LCSW, daphna@connectionsfirst.org, and adheres to the code of ethics set by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics.
